It’s rare but it still happens, discovering a hidden natural treasure. A short while ago a farmer in the Toro valley got the idea that people might like the canyon he had on his property. He took a machete and cut a trail through the forest. The first people to venture along this trail could not believe their eyes upon arrival. An untouched world of stunning beauty was revealed. Because of its volcanic origin the water doesn’t have a normal color but is a clear shade of blue. Giant moss covered boulders are dotted through the river and twisting vines hang down from the sides of the canyon. You will be walking alongside and through the river towards a stunning 50mtr high waterfall. This waterfall, the circular pool and imposing walls that surround it, are the beginning of the huge canyon. You will take your time to enjoy this stunning scenery and the super cool water of the blue pool. You will now continue your way wading through the river. This will take you to a series of smaller waterfalls and other blue pools. The adventurous ones can now be geared up by The Blue Falls Canyon team for the next phase of the river exploration. A wet-suit, a life vest and a helmet will be provided for safe continuation real adventure begins when we take you beyond a point where others aren’t allowed to roam. You will swim, climb, slide, swing, walk, rappel and jump our way though the narrow part of the canyon.
At a two hour drive from La Fortuna we visit the Tenorio volcano national park. After some hiking we will get to the Rio Celeste (blue river). The blue color you can see is the result of a chemical reaction between two merging rivers containing different volcanic minerals. (Foto tenideros) It’s a very rare phenomenon which creates a fairytale- like beauty. The hike itself is medium tough and takes about 4 hours. It will take you to a waterfall, a lookout point and the place where the river changes colors. (Foto waterfall)With the help of the guide there is a good possibility of seeing wildlife. After the hike we’ll have lunch and start our drive back to la Fortuna.
