At a two hour drive from La Fortuna we visit the Tenorio volcano national park. After some hiking we will get to the Rio Celeste (blue river). The blue color you can see is the result of a chemical reaction between two merging rivers containing different volcanic minerals. (Foto tenideros) It’s a very rare phenomenon which creates a fairytale- like beauty. The hike itself is medium tough and takes about 4 hours. Having done the pickup we go on a 20minute drive to a beautiful park at the foot of the Arenal Volcano. The tour starts by hiking the dense forest trails that leads us closer to the Arenal volcano. After about an hour of hilly trails, passing many huge trees, we leave the tropical forest. Reaching an open area you can have your first good view of our tours destination...the Arenal volcano.  Crossing some farmland we reach a pretty green lake that lays at the edge of the lava fields. After a short pause we pass the cemetary of the victims of the second explotion of the´68 eruption. We now start climbing a staircase that takes us on top of the lavafields. Follow the trail cut through the sharp rocks we reach the highest existing viewpoint.  At the end of the hike enjoy a typical lunch and for finish the tour, in the most relaxing way, you will be taken to the natural hotspring resort before drive you to your hotel

Follow the trail cut through the sharp rocks we reach the highest existing viewpoint.  Standing here you´ll be amazed by what you see: the lavafields, the Arenal lake, the plains of the northern lowlands, endless forest, and of course Arenals massive cone towering over you.  Hiking away from the volcano we explore more forest in which we have a good chance of running into wildlife. The guides will be there to show you and tell about the fascinating ecosystem of the rainforest. After enjoying a typical lunch  we provide we head down to the Observatory park.  At the observatory park you can enjoy the panoramic view of the volcano and lake from another spectacular angle. From here we  go on a light hike through gardens, farmland and forest. You pass two hanging bridges and visit the Danta river and waterfall. In the waterfall you can go for a refreshing swim or just relax and enjoy the scene. Leaving the forest, you reach the Arenal scientific Observatory. In it you can see the seismograph and your guide will explain more about the volcano with the help of images and pictures in its small museum. We end the hike at the deck where we hope to catch the sun going down over Lake Arenal. We have some tasty Costa Rican coffee before we get into the bus that will take us to the last part of our day.   To finish the tour, in the most relaxing way, you will be taken to the natural hotspring resort You can relax in its soothing warm water for about an hour and you can enjoy a volcanic mud facial and a complementary cocktail.  Your tour ends at approximately 7.30pm when you are dropped off at your hotel.

The best way to get close to the Arenal volcano, enjoy a jungle walk and visit the hot water river. At 1:30 pm we start our pickup and go on our way to far side of the volcano. It’s a 45minute drive on which you can see the Arenal from different angles. We start our visit at the deck of the Observatory lodge.  Here we enjoy the panoramic view of the volcano and Arenal Lake. We hike through gardens and forest, pass two hanging bridges and visit the Danta river and waterfall. Along the way your guide explains about the ecosystem, the volcanoes and the animals you can see. Amongst others we often see monkeys and tropical birds. We visit the Arenal Observatory with its informative museum where we explain more about the volcano and its history. We finish the hike at the Observatory lodge to watch the sunset over lake Arenal. On our drive down from the lodge we will try to find the red eyed tree frog. To finish the tour in the most relaxing way we take you to the natural hotspring Resort We relax in its soothing warm water for about an hour and you can enjoy a volcanic mud facial and a complementary cocktail. At about 8pm you´ll be back at your hotel.

Arenal Volcano, La Fortuna Waterfall and Hotsprings

Our day begins…After picking you up we go on a short drive to get to our departure point. Here we start with an easy forest walk along the crystal clear La Fortuna river. En route we hop on a tractor cart that takes us up hill to a panoramic viewpoint.  Having seen our objective in the distance we start a trek down a jungle staircase. Halfway down we reach a high suspension bridge that needs to be conquered to continue.  The trail leads us further down the huge canyon that was shaped by a volcanic mega eruption. Coming to the end of the canyon the spectacular La Fortuna waterfall awaits you. Be amazed by the lush vegetation on its 70mtr high walls, the huge Vulcanic rocks at its foot and the amount of water splashing down in its massive pool. We take time to bask in its beauty and the brave ones can go out and take a super refreshing dip. Getting back to the viewpoint we walk down to the little village of the Maluku Indians. Seated in their Palenke (main house) we enjoy a rest while listening to an interesting story about their culture, art and history. Having been active for some hours the moment has come to enjoy a warm typical lunch. Next to the restaurant there is a butterfly garden and frog pond you can explore till food is served. Reenergized we take a 15minute ride to the park at the foot of the Arenal volcano. We start on a trail through primary forest where you can see big trees with huge roots. Besides a variety of birds the forest is host to Monkeys as well as Sloth´s and Coati’s. Out of the forest, we cross farmland till we get to a green lake. Passing a cemetery of the eruption victims we reach the wall of Lava from the ´68 eruption. Going up some steep steps we arrive on top of the huge mass of lava rocks. Following a trail that is cut out through the rocks we climb our way up the slopes of the Arenal. Reaching the highest Viewpoint that exist around the Volcano we can absorb the most spectacular panoramic views. Looking around it just gets better, Lake Arenal, Jungle, the Valley, Lava fields and most of all the  Arenal that towering over you     To finish the tour in the most relaxing way, you will be taken to the natural hotspring resort. You can relax in its soothing warm water for about an hour and you can enjoy a volcanic mud facial and a complementary cocktail.  Around 7pm we will take you back to your hotel.
